Getting Imperium Galactica II to run on Windows XP 2008-09-11
If you are a lucky owner of Imperium Galactica 2 (IG2) but are unable to play it on your Windows XP Widescreen-Laptop, here is a complete guide on how to get it running.
Installation:
1. Install the IG2 CDs.
2. Install the official patch 1.06 (grab it here)
3. Install the official patch 1.08 (grab it here)
4. Install the fan patch 1.14 (grab it here)
The Fan-Patch is absolutely essential to run Imperium Galactica II on Windows XP.
Make sure you read the readme that comes with this patch.
Setup:
If you got a 4:3 display, just run the setup.exe and set the screen resolution to 1024x768x16.
If you got a widescreen display this one gets a bit tricky.
DO NOT RUN THE SETUP.EXE! THIS WILL CAUSE WINDOWS TO CRASH!
Instead go to the folder where you installed the game and create a simple textfile (.txt) there.
Change its name to ig2.ini and open it.
Copy and paste this into your ig2.ini:
The name you need is written down in the Default device box under Sound playback. Simply write the name you read there, where I wrote SigmaTel Audio in the ig2.ini.
Save and close the file.
Start:
Again, this is a bit tricky.
Try 1: Start Imperium Galactica by launching the ig2.exe.
To check if it is really working, try to start a battle. For example Singleplayer \ Scenario \ Skirmish Battle. If this does not work go on.
Try 2: Right click on the ig2.exe, select the properties, got to the compatibility page and select the Windows 98 compatibile mode.
Click ok and launch the game. (Try to launch a battle again)
Try 3 and 4: The same as 1 and 2, but use the ig2nt.exe instead.
Some additional tipps...
Multiplayer Network Games:
The game comes with four CDs and luckily any CD is required to play an IG2 multiplayer game! So you could give the three other CDs to your friends.
To get a good connection make absolutely sure, that your Windows Firewall is disabled.
Enhanced display settings on widescreen monitors:
The game is 4:3. To play it without beeing stretched to 16:10 open your graphics controls, goto the Display \ Change flat panel scaling and select the scaling with fixed-aspect ratio option.
(the description is made for the NVIDIA Control Panel - but your display driver should have those settings too)
And now, finally, enjoy the game!
If you still encounter problems in getting IG2 to run, I'm sure I can't help you.
No, seriously, I can't.

Display driver = Primary Display Driver

Sound driver = SigmaTel Audio

Maybe i could get some help here. I got the game, to almost work from start without patches at all. When i install the patches, its exactly the same for me as without them. I get the same error, time after time, after time. sounds_groundwar.dat Is causing the game to crash. It only crashes when there is a groundwar overrun, where you see the fighting on the ground. Else it works perfectly for me. It says: Decompress error loading from data\sounds_groundwar.dat Generate exeption? i click yes. Then comes: Unhandled exeption at 0x5230B1 i click ok. Then comes: Dear player, our program performed an illegal operation, and will be terminated. The game has been saved to the last slot. I click try again, and i end up in game again, with the enemy fleet on my planet, and when i go down to the planet again, F3 then the error happends again. If i dont go down, on the planet anymore, then the game continues to work. lol I think the groundwar.dat file maybe corrupted, but i tried reinstall several times, and its the same and only error each time. It comes randomly, some fights it works, then suddenly a fight the error comes. Anyone of you experienced, the same error? Any sugestions on what to do? Any of u got another groundwar.dat file, that works you could email me? Thanks in advance. TJ

o_O Well, that sounds really strange. No fix, but making it playable again: turn off the groundwars.

Same here on vista home premium. the command console the game uses can only support so many / well Thedric sense using pages for example. the ground battles take up about the most of their limited sourced page. When any source attempts to pull from another then the command line reference depends an illegal fault within the service and then closes the service. Or the page fault crashes two into one another and cannot depend them apart from the other. with my fault occurs after about the second attempt the service/game closes. After about the third restart of the game it tends to work or tries. Usually. The cause (process fault) is the main culprit here and also can indicate a memory problem within the system services. If occurs often or if not, all the time. I.E. reference msconfig. Services/ The most common Video or audio card errors /Depends. With your system solution differs.

I made the game working for my sun of 17 years old under XP as follows: After you installed the game, you go to http://logocom.be/games/ig2 with internet explorer or another browser. You download the three items there that all three start with "ig2nt" to a map on your hard disk. When you open the download map, you can double click on the ig2nt.bat, a simple batch file you can check with notepad if you do not trust me and does the following in command modus: xcopy ig2nt*.* "C:\Program Files\Digital Reality\Imperium Galactica 2\" After that, you may also put the ig2-snelkoppeling.exe to your desktop, because it is a shortcut to the NT-compatible startup executable for Imperium Galactica 2. Success! If it does NOT succeed, please inform me on info@logocom.be

8.07.2008 12:54 Uhr Imperium Galactica 2: Alliances Kurztipps - Imperium Galactica 2: Alliances Start game with the parameter +setconsole 1. Now you can use the ^-botton during the game, to activat the console. Type in "listenupeverybody" and now one of the following codes: Cheat Wirkung Ghettoblaster All Fleets Shootem' All Wapeons Dienodie Godmode Splasher Strange watereffect You don´t know how to change a parameterline? No Problem: make a seconde icon on the desktop by using the rightmouseclick, now rightclick on the seconde on, look for the targetpath and type inb at the end +setconsole 1. Press return. So now you start with this icon. But first, set a restorepoint, i just found this a few moments ago, i only translated it for you. Searched for it over ten years, i hope it works, but i´m quite sure, cos the cheats i allready had, but i never got it work, so let´s hope and have a lot of fun with: IG2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the cheats i´m quit

I only got the game to run on my widescreen lcd monitor by running at 640x480x32 (both the game and video)
#3.1 - Jan 2009-09-06 19:01 - (Reply)
Mhm. That is strange. Make sure really all patchs are installed correctly! Well, I'm sure you did that - but I got it to run on multiple different computers following these instructions here.

High guys! Does anyone know why the 1280x1024 screen mode has not been fixed in the 1.14 patch? In that mode (sort of double the 640x480) several 2D look pretty good in comparison to intermediate modes (let alone it's a larger mode...). I was wondering whether it will be fixed sometime... It would look so cool...
#4.1 - Jan 2009-11-01 03:21 - (Reply)
Well... 1.14 is 'just' a fan patch. But you could try larger resolutions - maybe they work for you (on your system). I can just tell that my game/pc crashed nearly 80-90% of the time I ran other resolutions than 1024x768.

Help!!! I played IG1 when I was younger and loved it. I bought IG2 today from a bookstore and I cannot get it to install on my computer. I have Windows Vista. I tried changing the capability mode to window 98 (and others) but when I try to install it does nothing?

Does anyone know why I can't get ig2nt.exe to run from command line under Windows XP? (I got all the patches, 1.06, 1.08 and 1.14). Well, of course I can access the exe file from my command line, but it keeps asking for a setup, while if I double click it from explorer it just runs. I just want to run the game from my command line.
#10.1 - just kevin 2010-11-04 11:40 - (Reply)
I already found my answer. The ig2nt.exe had to be called from the install directory from the command line. Otherwise the game looks for the ini file in the current directory of the command line program.
