It's been a while since I wrote about my conversion to Linux.
Some things have changed. Now I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with the Gnome Desktop (and still boot Windows every once a while to play games that else won't run).

But, that's not what I wanted to write about. I just wanted to share some nice, little bash-scripts with you.
They are far from being perfect, but hey, the're working.

Continue reading "Cycle through your workspaces in a loop on Ubuntu"

Carsten helped me to set up an old computer with a new kubuntu-Linux. And it runs soooo smooth.
The installation worked like charm, fast and without any problems. I can setup everything to react, look, sound, feel,... exactly like I want it to.

And it's really less scary as i thougth it would be ;)

There are instructions and config files on the web, but in the case of VirtualBox, I found that some things were missing.
Continue reading "Running the eeePC OS within VirtualBox"

Today, I bought a USB keyboard to use with my eeePC, when I have to type a lot. When I turned over the carton, I was quite stunned. There were 3 compatibility logos. One for Windows XP and one for Windows Vista. But the third one didn't display any fruit. Instead, there was that fat, snugly penguin we love so much!

OK, that's not the biggest sensation of the year, but it says something about the role, Linux plays in the market today.

For that purpose I will be building packages of map drawing and GPS utilizing software. Read on, if you're interested in the first two packages (Navit and Marble) and in how to install them.

American scientists made one of the biggest discoveries on the way to understanding ourselves in the last 20 years.

The long standing mystery of why the human body develops a fever when it's ill, has finally be solved. In an interdisciplinary effort by medical doctors and physicists it was discovered, that the human immunesystem is exothermic. When an antibody-cell encounters a body-cell, a cancellation happens and two quantums of energy are emitted. If the particular infection leads to a large count of antibody cells, this results in a large amount of cancellations and in turn in lots of energy, that heats up the body.

What a great day for humanity!

Lately, tech media is reporting about trojans, that manipulate the victims DNS configuration and that way allow phishing attacks without URI manipulation. With things like that in mind, I guess you'd not love it, if your network equipment would send your possibly sensitive data to the wrong target. But that's exactly, what a friends DSL router does.
Continue reading "Twist and Shout! regards,
